Ingredients
  

For the Meatloaf Layer:

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Mashed Potato Layer:

  • 3 cups potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: chopped green onions or cooked bacon bits

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare potatoes

  • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk, and salt until smooth. Set aside.

Step 2: Preheat oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease your baking dish.

Step 3: Make meat mixture

  • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Step 4: Layer meat

  • Press the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of your baking dish.

Step 5: First bake

  • Bake for 25 minutes to partially cook the meat.

Step 6: Add mashed potatoes

  • Remove from oven and carefully spread mashed potatoes over the meat layer.

Step 7: Add cheese topping

  • Sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella evenly on top.

Step 8: Final bake

  • Return to oven and bake for another 30 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 9: Rest and serve

  • Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
