Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups dried navy beans rinsed and soaked overnight
  • 2 cups cooked ham cubed
  • 1 ham bone optional, for extra flavor
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 carrots sliced
  • 2 celery stalks chopped
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 bay leaf

Optional additions:

  • 1 tablespoon butter for richness
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions
 

Step 1: Prepare the Beans

  • If using dried beans, soak them overnight in water. Drain and rinse before adding to the crockpot.

Step 2: Add Ingredients to Crockpot

  • Place the beans, ham, ham bone, onion, garlic, carrots, and celery into the slow cooker.

Step 3: Add Liquid and Seasoning

  • Pour in the chicken broth. Add salt, pepper, thyme, and the bay leaf.

Step 4: Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours. The beans should be tender and the flavors well blended.

Step 5: Remove Bone and Finish

  • If using a ham bone, remove it before serving. Stir the soup and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 6: Serve

  • Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh parsley.
