  • Oven-safe bowls
  • Baking tray

Ingredients

  • 4 large onions thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup grated cheese Gruyère or mozzarella
  • 4 slices bread toasted

Step 5: Simmer

  • Let the soup simmer for 15–20 minutes to develop flavor.

Step 6: Prepare Toppings

  • Toast bread slices and grate cheese.

Step 7: Assemble

  • Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, place toasted bread on top, and sprinkle cheese generously.

Step 8: Broil

  • Place bowls under a broiler until cheese melts and becomes golden.

Step 9: Serve

  • Serve hot and enjoy immediately.
