Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Mix the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a soft dough begins to form.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • If using a stand mixer, knead with the dough hook for about 5 minutes.

Step 4: First Rise

  • Place the dough into a greased bowl and cover with a clean towel.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5: Shape the Rolls

  • Punch down the dough gently.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a smooth ball.
  • Place the rolls onto a greased baking dish or baking sheet.

Step 6: Second Rise

  • Cover the rolls loosely with a towel and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  • They should look puffy and soft.

Step 7: Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Bake the rolls for 16 to 18 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Step 8: Brush with Butter

  • Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush melted butter over the tops.
  • Serve warm and enjoy.
