Equipment

  • Baking dish (medium size)
  • Mixing bowls
  • Sharp knife
  • Peeler
  • Cutting board
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven

Ingredients

For the apple filling:

  • 6 medium apples Granny Smith or Braeburn, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the crumble topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold, cubed
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish lightly with butter.

Step 2: Prepare the apples

  • In a bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss well until evenly coated.

Step 3: Assemble the base

  • Spread the apple mixture evenly into the baking dish. Make sure the apples are distributed evenly for consistent cooking.

Step 4: Make the crumble topping

  • In another bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and rub them into the mixture using your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 5: Add the topping

  • Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples. Don’t press it down—keep it loose for a crisp texture.

Step 6: Bake

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling underneath.

Step 7: Cool slightly and serve

  • Let the crumble rest for 10 minutes before serving. This helps the filling set slightly.
