Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer with dough hook (optional but helpful)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rolling Pin
  • Sharp knife or dough cutter
  • Baking dish (9x13 inch)
  • Clean kitchen towel
  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Filling:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This step is important—it means your yeast is active and ready to work its magic.
  • Add sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well. Gradually add flour and knead until a soft dough forms. You can use a stand mixer or knead by hand for about 8–10 minutes.

Step 2: First Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 3: Make the Filling

  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. The smell alone at this stage is already so comforting.

Step 4: Roll and Fill

  • Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 14x9 inches). Spread softened butter evenly, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture all over.

Step 5: Shape the Rolls

  • Roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.

Step 6: Second Rise

  • Cover and let the rolls rise again for 30 minutes. They should puff up nicely and fill the pan.

Step 7: Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.

Step 8: Glaze

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls so it melts into every swirl.
